This year's Animation is Film Festival will feature the world premiere of "ParaNorman: The Thrifting," and a "Kpop Demon Hunters" panel.
However, the September 2025 iteration of the monthly ranking has its own distinction: it's the first time on a song from the movie's fictional girl group HUNTR/X is No. 1, as "Golden" rises to the top, vanquishing the two-month lead by its in-film foe, Saja Boys.
Since its June debut, "KPop Demon Hunters" and its catchy soundtrack have smashed numerous records on Netflix as well as the Billboard charts.
The movie, directed by Maggie Kang and Chris Applehans, centers on a K-pop girl group, Huntr/x — comprised of Rumi (Cho), Mira (Hong), and Zoey (Ji-young Yoo) — which is a disguise for their more important jobs as demon hunters.
KPop Demon Hunters fans are trying ramyun, just like the film's heroines, sparking warnings from doctors to help avoid getting burned.
Since the list’s inception, honorees have gone on to earn nominations and win guild and Academy Awards. Recently, 2023 honoree James Price (production designer, “Poor Things”) and 2024’s Paul Tazewell (costume designer, “Wicked”) went on to win the Academy Award in their respective categories.
