Broadway buffs in Des Moines might want to clear their calendars for the next year: Des Moines Performing Arts just announced its 2025-2026 Willis Broadway Series lineup. Paul Tazewell made history at the Oscars, becoming the first Black man to win best costume design. Tazewell won for his masterful design work in “Wicked” at the 97th Academy Awards on Sunday. It is his first win and second nomination.

Several carry a common theme — girl power, Iowa, and great for kids, to name a few. Des Moines Performing Arts invested in two of the shows — “The Notebook” and “The Outsiders” — as part of the Independent Presenters Network, a consortium of 40 leading Broadway presenters, theaters, and performing arts centers nationwide.

Jeff Chelesvig, the president and CEO of Des Moines Performing Arts (DMPA), is retiring. He will remain in the role until Aug. 31 while the board of directors for DMPA conducts a national search for his replacement.
