According to the sources, it was part of the Trump administration’s crackdown on individuals it has described as espousing the views of Hamas.

The Department of Homeland Security said a Columbia University student who had her student visa revoked self-deported. Another Palestinian student was arrested for overstaying her expired visa.

Another Columbia student, Mahmoud Khalil, is currently in detention and challenging his removal from the country for participating in pro-Palestine protests on campus. Khalil is a green card holder and has not yet been charged with any crime.
