The tropical-like downpours triggered flash flooding, stranding some motorists and forcing them to abandon their ride.

Strong storms dumped heavy rain across parts of the Philadelphia area early Thursday afternoon. A Flash Flood Warning remains in effect through 6:30 p.m. with more rain and storms on the way.

T hursday will bring the fourth day in a row with a NEXT Weather Alert for the Philadelphia region, though it will be due to storms and flooding, not necessarily the heat. It will be hot, but it won't be as hot as the previous days.

Acting New Jersey Gov. Tahesha Way declared that a State of Emergency will go into effect in preparation for potential flash flooding, severe storms, intense rainfall and damaging wind gusts.

The New York City area and New Jersey declared states of emergency Thursday as heavy rain with the potential for flash floods approached the region. Weather is expected to dump several inches of rain in the New York-New Jersey areas as residents make their evening commutes home.
