Billionaire footballer Cristiano Ronaldo has taken a stake in Perplexity AI Inc., marking the Portuguese star’s most high-profile investment to date.

The New York Times sued Perplexity AI on Friday, accusing the artificial intelligence startup of unlawfully copying, distributing and displaying millions of its articles without permission to help train chatbots.

The newspaper is alleging copyright infringement and calling out Perplexity's Retrieval Augmented Generation (RAG) as a culprit.
