The Canyon Fire in Southern California has spread to more than 5,300 acres and was 25% contained, a day after igniting outside of Piru, CA.

A brush fire started on a sweltering day east of Lake Piru in Ventura County and led to evacuations as this week’s warm temperatures in Southern California reached their peak. The Canyon Fire was estimated at about 50 acres early Thursday afternoon before quickly spreading to more than 4,

The fire is burning just south of Lake Piru, a reservoir located in the Los Padres National Forest. It's close by Lake Castaic, a popular recreation area burned by the Hughes Fire in January. That fire burned about 15 square miles (39 square kilometers) in six hours and put 50,000 people under evacuation orders or warnings.
