August's full 'Sturgeon Moon' rises this weekend, putting on a spectacular lunar light show as it leaps above the southeastern horizon at sunset on Aug. 9.

The August 2025 full moon, known as the Sturgeon Moon, comes with a bonus planetary lineup, a meteor shower, and more.

The Sturgeon Moon is best seen from an elevated location, like an open field or an east-facing coastline with a clear view of the eastern horizon. While the naked eye works for this annual lunar event, binoculars or a small telescope can offer a much better view.
