TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — Tampa police are cracking down on dangerous packs of bike riders who are taking over streets in South Tampa. On Wednesday night, police used their helicopter and a number of ground units to put the brakes on a pack of more than 200 riders.

Monster Jam is rolling into Tampa this weekend, marking the first major event at the newly named Benchmark International Arena.

The Tampa Police Department said the incident occurred around 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Police said more than 200 people were part of this massive group on bikes, scooters, e-bikes and dirt bikes.

The deal between Benchmark and Vinik Sports Group, terms of which were not disclosed, includes $3 million in community contributions.

The deal to rename Amalie Arena includes $3 million in joint nonprofit contributions to benefit the Tampa Bay community.

The Tampa Police Department said the shooting occurred around 10:20 a.m. at the Silver Oaks Apartments on 4201 Kenneth Court.
