Gov. Gregg Abbott says state Democrats who skipped town to derail a GOP-backed redistricting effort could face expulsion from office and even potential felony charges.

Texas Republicans on Tuesday failed again to move forward with their redistricting efforts despite issuing civil arrest warrants for Democrats who fled the state to stop them.

After no quorum was reached in the Texas House on Monday, House Speaker Dustin Burrows voted for and signed motions the House passed requiring the return of 56 missing Democrats. This included Burrows signing civil warrants for their arrest and directing the sergeant of arms to find those in Texas and bring them back to the capitol.
