WARSAW, Poland -- Poland will temporarily reinstate border controls with neighboring Germany and Lithuania, Prime Minister Donald Tusk said Tuesday.

Poland will introduce temporary controls along borders with Germany and Lithuania on July 7, Prime Minister Donald Tusk said on Tuesday, echoing several other European Union countries in reimposing frontier checks to stem illegal migration.

Poland has made the call to bring back border controls at its borders with Germany and Lithuania to curb the flood of illegal migrants. All three European Union (EU) countries are part of the Schengen Area, which permits free movement across most of the region.
