Donald Trump has announced a fresh energy deal with Pakistan to jointly develop the country’s oil reserves. Many view the deal with Islamabad as a reset of ties. Moreover, it comes at a time when the US president has levied a 25 per cent tariff on India along with a ‘Russian penalty’.

India is the world’s third-largest consumer of crude oil and depends on imports to meet around 88 per cent of its requirement of the commodity.
