The Pirates confirmed that the Cincinnati native, who appeared in parts of seven major league seasons, died of a heart attack in a social media post Thursday.

According to Pittsburgh Baseball Now, the 53-year-old Sauerbeck suffered a heart attack in Bradenton, Fla., earlier this week. The Pittsburgh Pirates confirmed Sauerbeck’s passing. “Our thoughts are with his family and friends during this difficult time,” the team wrote on X (formerly Twitter).
