The Clemson Tigers have improved using the transfer portal this offseason and coach Dabo Swinney explains why.

Dabo Swinney did a lot of due diligence to eventually hire Tom Allen as his new defensive coordinator. Allen, the former Indiana head coach, spent one year at Penn State before coming to Clemson. It’ll surely give a boost to the Tigers’ defense unit after Allen’s stellar job with the Nittany Lions this season.

Dabo Swinney released a statement on the decision on Monday. He thanked Wes Goodwin for everything that he did for the Clemson football team. Goodwin has been with the Tigers for quite a while, so this wasn't an easy decision.

Over the past few years Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney has been the focal point of more than his share of criticism. Some have called Swinney stubborn, saying that he refused to adapt.

Tom Allen served as Penn State's defensive coordinator for one year. He will reportedly be the fourth defensive coordinator hired under Dabo Swinney.
