HOUSTON - Get ready for a major winter storm to impact parts of Texas over the next few days.

HISD has taken "corrective action" against a policy that charged families fees for picking up their children more than 30 minutes late at Herrera Elementary.

The construction on Beltway 8 can be quite the headache for northside drivers and many others who head to Bush Airport, but TxDOT says it is scheduled to be finished this year.

Parents at Herrera Elementary are questioning why they are being charged $1 for every minute they are late to picking up their child from class.

On Sunday, an arctic blast settled into the region, bringing the first freeze to Houston and high chances of wintry precipitation to North Texas.

TxDOT says winter weather operations are in full swing from North Texas to the Panhandle as crews work to clear the roadways. TxDOT also has a statewide map that shows road conditions are a mess in areas slammed by the wintry weather.

The timeframe would be Thursday morning into Friday with snow and ice being the main concern for areas north of Houston.
