Toronto’s pitching rotation has officially become one of the most competitive in the league. The Blue Jays have reportedly agreed to a free-agent contract with right-handed pitcher Max Scherzer, signing the veteran arm to a one-year deal worth $15.

The three-time Cy Young winner will join a rotation that includes Jose Berrios, Kevin Gausman and Chris Bassitt as the Blue Jays try to make it back to the postseason. In 2024, the Blue Jays pitched to a 4.29 ERA, which was among the bottom 10 teams in all of baseball, but Gausman, Berrios and Bassitt all pitched to lower ERAs than that number.

The Blue Jays’ offseason luck continued to improve on Thursday, as they agreed to terms with future Hall of Famer Max Scherzer.

Entering his age-40 season, Scherzer was never going to get more than a year, and his $15.5 million salary is right in line with Justin Verlander, Alex Cobb, Charlie Morton and other veteran arms who've signed this winter.
