There's plenty of power at the first base position, but how deep are the options behind Bryce Harper and Vladimir Guerrero Jr.?

Philadelphia Phillies star first baseman Bryce Harper left Wednesday's spring training matchup against the Toronto Blue Jays with an injury. Harper was hit by a pitch on his tricep during the game, and he did not return. The Phillies weren't very concerned about the injury after the game, and an update on Harper was provided Thursday.

DUNEDIN, Fla. — The second time Blue Jays manager John Schneider brought in a lefty to face Bryce Harper in the middle of an inning during the fourth Grapefruit League game of the spring, Harper glared toward the Toronto dugout. Schneider interpreted that as Harper wondering, “What are you doing?”

Earlier in the offseason, Vladimir Guerrero Jr. set a deadline for extension talks with the Toronto Blue Jays which passed on Monday night and one Reds HOFer believes that he is destined for free agency. The 25-year-old is entering his final contract year with Toronto, where he will be the biggest name in free agency after that.

Phillies manager Rob Thomson said the team is “not really over-concerned at all” about Bryce Harper after the Philadelphia slugger left an exhibition game against Toronto when he was hit on an arm by a pitch.

The Toronto Blue Jays may be set up to cut ties with Vladimir Guerrero Jr. this season, which would free up some money to spend elsewhere.
