Negotiations between Pakistan and Afghanistan broke down Wednesday after both sides failed to resolve tensions that sparked violent clashes earlier this month.

Afghanistan and Pakistan say they will respect a ceasefire mediated by Qatar and Turkey. The truce comes into effect immediately and is intended to pause hostilities.

The sides plan to meet again at a higher-level gathering in Istanbul on Nov. 6 to finalize how the ceasefire will be implemented, Turkey’s Foreign Ministry said.
