The friendship between Elon Musk and President Trump hit a major speed bump on Thursday as the two publicly sparred in a viral dispute after years of knowing each other.

Not content with trying to “make America great again”, Elon Musk and Donald Trump appear to have spectacularly fallen out.The US President brought in the tech entrepreneur at the start of his second term to streamline operations – which Musk did with relish as part of his Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE).

Now, as Musk leaves the Trump administration and returns to the private sector—and as the two men engage in oafish public meltdowns on their respective social media platforms—the question of whether DOGE was, on balance, “worth it” for Musk sort of depends on what happens to his portfolio over the next quarter or so.
