Forecasters say a disturbance in the Atlantic has a 70-percent chance of cyclone formation over the next week.

Hurricane Gil weakened into a tropical storm in the eastern Pacific Ocean on Saturday, according to the U.S. National Hurricane Center. It was not forecast to threaten land. The Miami-based U.S. National Hurricane Center said the storm’s maximum sustained winds dropped to 65 mph.

Tropical Storm Gil is expected to strengthen into a hurricane in the Pacific on Friday, Aug. 1, according to the National Hurricane Center.
