Turnout remains steady across Los Angeles as voters weigh Proposition 50 and local races in California’s statewide special election.

Early results show that Prop 50 was a tight race in counties like Fresno and Inyo. But in some counties, voters overwhelmingly opposed it.

Proposition 50, California’s answer to Republican redistricting efforts in Texas, passed overwhelmingly on Tuesday with more than 63% of the vote – and ballots are still being tallied. The

CA-27 in northern LA County and CA-42 in the south would be among districts most impacted by new congressional maps.

Turnout was heavy as Californians cast ballots for Proposition 50, which would gerrymander five Republican House seats into likely Democratic ones. “It’s more than I thought,” said Jan Lopez, supervisor of a voting center in the Woodland Hills section of Los Angeles.
