The work stoppage pitting Republic Services against the Teamsters has gone from a headache to a public health risk, Gov. Maura Healey said Thursday.
Since the strike began on July 1, residents in 14 municipalities have experienced service disruptions, as have businesses and property owners elsewhere that contract with Republic.
A federal mediator was scheduled to meet with members of the Teamsters Local 25 and the trash company providing garbage services in more than a dozen Bay State cities and towns on Tuesday.
