Egg Company recalls 1.7 million dozens of eggs due to Salmonella risk, with 79 illnesses and 21 hospitalizations reported.

A major egg recall involving products sold at Walmart, Safeway and other retailers in nine states has been issued after a salmonella outbreak was blamed for 21 hospitalizations.

Almost 2 million cartons of eggs across the United States have been pulled off shelves because of the threat of a salmonella outbreak. The recall, announced Friday by California-based manufacturer August Egg Co.
