The White House wants Kyiv to sign off on a “framework” to end the war in Ukraine based upon the U.S.-crafted 28-point peace plan by Thursday, according to three U.S. officials.
While the White House has cautioned that the proposal is still in “flux,” its contours reflect maximalist demands made by Russia throughout the war that Ukraine has consistently rejected.
The emergence of a US draft plan to end Russia’s war on Ukraine has abruptly altered the diplomatic landscape surrounding the invasion, added to pressure on Kyiv to make major concessions, and raised more questions than it answers.
President Trump said he wants Ukraine to accept a sweeping U.S. deal to end its nearly four-year-old war with Russia by Thanksgiving, giving Kyiv less than a week to decide whether to agree to a draft plan that would make major concessions to Russia.
President Trump is pressuring Ukraine to sign on to his 28-point peace plan. Russian President Vladimir Putin says the plan could form the "basis" for a final settlement and is already accusing Kyiv of opposing it.
